Hand Therapy Mentorship

Whether you are starting off your level two fieldwork in a outpatient clinic/hand therapy setting, or you are a new graduate and entering into clinical practice on your own, it is always good to have a mentor or some guidance, especially when dealing with postop cases. Hand therapy is a very dense subspecialty, heavy on anatomy, critical thinking, and splinting. At your level two fieldwork, there are benchmarks that give us the foundations to succeed in general clinical practice, but additional education, training, and mentorship are required to flourish as a hand therapist. A CHT or certified hand therapist is a clinician who has practice for over 4000 hours and upper extremity care. It is rumored to be a very hard examination to pass, but with a good study technique and good resources, it is possible.

I would like to introduce this course to any new occupational therapy, students or occupational therapy assistants who are entering into an unfamiliar territory and need some help. This is also a great course for anyone who happens to have a general caseload, primarily adults with orthopedic and neurological conditions.

My goal in the end is to further prepare clinicians with practical skills for real life. Clinical practice. For more information, please see https://www.handsonneurorehab.com/mentorship
